Engineering Operations Manager
Competitive Salary + pension + 33 days holiday (including Bank Holidays)
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 8.30am - 5.00pm and Friday's 8.30am - 1.30pm.
Savery Hydraulics a trading division of TA Savery & Co Limited has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineering Operations Manager to join our hydraulics engineering team based in Coventry.
As a company we are a World leader in the design and manufacture of safety critical equipment used in a wide range of applications in the Rail, Elevator and Industrial sectors.
Overall Purpose of the Role:
You will be responsible for all Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activities across our Hydraulic Systems facility, which will include the day to day planning and organisation to improve product quality, on time delivery and capacity planning.
This role will involve managing a team of frontline shop floor personnel to set standards, identify deviation to standard and create structured problem-solving activities to improve Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery performance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Project manage all products manufactured in the systems facility from point of production release to customer delivery.
- Chair weekly production meetings, set weekly / monthly targets and review previous weeks activities liaising with the wider sales, engineering and operations teams.
- Produce / update project plans and chair weekly project update meetings with customers and Project Engineers to set / take ownership for delivery dates.
- Be responsible for prototype manufacture and liaising with the wider team for series manufacture in the small power units and manifold assembly areas.
- Take responsibility for capacity planning.
- Understand the manufacturing process of each product in detail at design release stage and liaise with Project Engineers on exact requirements including 3rd party witness of product.
- Set priorities for Manifold manufacture across the product groups liaising with PED and the wider Operations team to ensure programs are written in advance of machining requirements.
- Be responsible for supplier OTD and expediting via purchasing and stores personnel.
- Plan and organise specialist sub-contract processes on site as and when required as part of the product realisation process.
- Introduce a process of monitoring machining, assembly and test times against estimates and BOMS and investigate and report discrepancies to the wider team.
- Be central to technical problem solving in manufacture as they occur with the wider team and then take ownership of change control and rectification process as required.
- Take on a central role in understanding product assembly requirements and the implementation with PED or engineering teams of specialised tools and equipment that may be required ahead of the build schedule.
- Improve organisation and cleanliness of assembly areas introducing 5S.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience of hydraulic / manufacturing / production engineering processes.
- Good technical understanding of managing / leading a team.
- Knowledge of modern manufacturing and engineering techniques; 5S, VSM, Problem Solving, TPM, pull systems and Standard Work.
- Lean Practitioner with proven experience of leading implementation teams to deliver measurable results.
- Can demonstrate relationship building experience, establishing high performance teams who are able to deliver results.
- Knowledge of MRP systems.
- Strong analytical and planning abilities.
- Project management experience - delivering change initiatives.
- Effective organiser, who can cope with multiple priorities.
- Excellent communicator and teamwork skills.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office and PC literacy.
