Costing Engineer

Competitive Salary + pension + 33 days holiday (including Bank Holidays)                         

Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 8.30am - 5.00pm and Friday's 8.30am - 1.30pm.

OLEO International a trading division of TA Savery & Co Limited has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Costing Engineer to join our engineering department based in Coventry.

We are an award-winning business and a World leader in the design and manufacture of safety critical equipment used in a wide range of applications within the Rail, Elevator and Industrial sectors.

Purpose of the Role:

Reporting to the Principal Engineer you will be responsible for producing accurate and reliable product cost models from the earliest stage of the design process. You will be required to calculate from first principles the manufacturing cost of a design and to coordinate all activities relating to product costing methods.

Costing Engineer Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation of accurate product cost models, including tooling and capital requirements.
  • Produce product cost models from 3D CAD in advance of drawing release from first principles.
  • Produce cost models from 2D drawings from first principles.
  • Identify areas for cost reduction at all stages of product life and identify / document standard costing processes.
  • Provide technical costing support to the purchasing team to ensure best cost for raw materials and sub-contract operations.
  • Provide technical costing support to the commercial / sales team as required.
  • Provide technical support to finance team when investigating cost build up from ERP system.
  • Establish and maintain a synthetic cost model system.
  • Ensure that all cost work is documented, revision controlled and released within the PDM system.
  • Work with the NPI Engineers during the process of proving out CNC programs and product builds in order to refine initial cost models.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of manufacturing routings / timings, loaded and maintained within the manufacturing system (QAD).
  • Interact closely with engineering, finance and operations teams.

Costing Engineer Key Requirements:

  • Possess an Engineering or Manufacturing related qualification.
  • A background in production, process or manufacturing engineering.
  • Able to read complex engineering drawings.
  • Possess a strong understanding of CNC turning / milling, grinding, honing and medium sized manual assembly processes.
  • Solid understanding of engineering materials and associated costs.
  • Knowledge of synthetic cost modelling (e.g. DFMA) would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of tolerancing including GDT would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of NPI (New product introduction) processes would be advantageous.
  • Familiar with modern ERP systems and extraction of data (QAD an advantage but not essential).
  • Experience in working with CAD (Solid works) would be advantageous.
  • Possesses an understanding of low to medium volume / high complexity manufacturing.
  • Excellent numerical, time management, project management, prioritisation and communication skills.
  • Experience of capital spend processes would be advantageous.
  • Flexible and keen to drive change and improvement.
  • Logical approach with the ability to solve complex problems
  • Computer literate.
